ANNUAL FRANCOS CRAWFISH MIXER!

We just finished our Annual Crawfish Tennis Mixer! 44 Players and about 30 spectators/crawfish experts came out last Saturday night for tennis, and crawfish with all the trimmings (plus beer). It was a BLAST! There were some amazing points played, lots of fun, lots of competition and then.... massive crawfish feasting!
Personally I did a much better job of peeling this year than I did on my first crawfish boil last year. Congratulations to Andrew Dornier who was this years champion. Also to runner up Chris Wilbanks and bronze medalist Jennifer Fell. Special thanks to everyone who attended. Even if you don't want to play, you can always come out to watch and eat and drink. Crawfish were provided by Northshore Seafood Catering. Thanks Roy!! See "Photo Gallery" for pictures from the event!
AUM PRO-AM AND CLINIC WAS AWESOME!!

It was a special weekend for all of us here at Franco's! The AUM Men's and Ladies Team's were awesome and so were all of our members who played in the weekend event. We started off Friday afternoon and evening as the men played against William Carey College and then Xavier University winning both matches decisively. During this we also got to watch a great mixed doubles match on the clay with our own Therina Steenkamp and Bruce Smith VS John Ballard and Maru Brito, who is the assistant coach for AUM and a former Clemson All American. Then John played a grinding match with one of the AUM players and it was spectacular tennis!
Saturday morning started with a pro-am with each member getting their own AUM player as their partner for the whole morning. There were some serious battles followed by even more serious trash talking! When this was over, the AUM coaches did station drilling for all of the adults and each group had 2 or 3 AUM players assigned to their group.
We finished with a 1-point tournament won by AUM Head Coach, Scott Kidd! We ate together in the grill afterward to finish off a great morning!
Then the kids came out for a clinic with the coaches and players in the afternoon. I must say that this was the best and most fun clinic I have ever done with college coaches and players. They did a magnificent job and our kids were amazing!
Special thank you's go out to all of those who participated and made it such a great event! See pictures from the event at the "photo gallery" on the left side menu!
Past Event Highlights
JANUARY CHILI MIXER BRINGS THE HEAT!
Not even EXTREME COLD or the rain that forced us to reschedule 2 times, could keep the 2010 Chili Cook-off Mixer from happening! It was cold, but it wasn't raining, so ....... we played! After we played and then thawed out enough so that I could total up the scores, Bill "The Knightmare" Knight was crowned "King of the Chili Mixer." Then we moved inside to get to the real reason we were there..... the Chili Cook-off Contest! Everyone tasted, sampled, pondered and then voted. I learned that we have some very serious chili artists here at the club. The votes were counted as the suspense mounted and then Mark Malkemus was awarded the Plaque and the honor of 2010 Chili Mixer Cook-off Champion was bestowed upon him and his mysteriously delicious brisket and bean masterpiece! Special thanks to all who played and cooked!
DECEMBER MIXER REPORT!
This past weekend, Sunday Dec 6th we had our 1st Saint Tennis & Tailgating Mixer! Play started at 10AM and went on until a winner was crowned. Then we went and watched the Saints defeat the Redskins while we feasted on food from the Grille - drinks too!
SCARY OCTOBER MIXER, "MAY IT REST IN PEACE"
Last Saturday night, 40 brave souls or should we say " GHOULS", braved the cooler temperatures and played some frighteningly good tennis. Check out all the photos under the new photo gallery section on the left hand menu.
Joe "the Pirate" Roy was the overall winner who battled his way through the blood and gore as any real pirate would. Joe used what he called his "point blank" strategy to take down his foes! The costume contest was so close that not one, but four winners were crowned. The men's awards went to Blake "The Elvis Caveman" Kennedy and Ryan "Words can't describe" Fanguy. The ladies competition was won by Vanessa Roy and Ashley Tappin. The food was provided by Acme Oyster House. Special thanks to Jake Palmer, General Manager of Acme Oyster House for all of his help, support and awesome food!
MARGARITA MIXER, AUGUST 2009
Margarita Mixer took place with 44 Francos members taking to our 11 courts(Full House)! Many frozen Margarita were consumed before, during and after play. Those frozen margarita machines are awesome! We had 2 different flavors plus beer for those who prefer the unfrozen refreshments. The menu had mexican chicken with north of the border beans, potato salad and the world famous mexican corn on the cob, made popular in the movie "Nacho Libre". Great job to Kip Cullen. Special thanks to Senorita Shannon and Senor Wayne for their assistance with our mixer. The margaritas seemed to enhance certain players skills and abilities, which was cool! No one seemed to be adversely effected by either flavor of the margaritas. When the scores were totalled by our independent accounting firm, 2nd place went to Norman Miller and 1st place went to Lynn Durant, way to go yall! Thank you to everyone who came out and played last Saturday! You made it a huge success and a whole lot of fun! Muchos Gracias!
CARRIBEAN BBQ TENNIS MIXER
Special thanks to all of our members who participated in our latest mixer/social on Saturday night July 18th. Thirty six warriors took the courts to begin an evening of doubles action. However, before we began we had to sing Happy Birthday to J.C. Martin. When this was finished, the rules were given and play began. When the smoke cleared, the points were totaled and awards were handed out. Congratulations to Sally Walter who was the highest scorer! Carlos Ditharo was 2nd and Christina Viers was 3rd. Dave Morgan received the much coveted "John Ballard Award". While Steve Schuette was presented the "Therina Award" for his creativity and skillful play! Then we ATE. Kip and the Franco's Grille guys provided and Amazing Caribbean BBQ feast. Beer and soft drinks completed the meal! Check out all of the photos from the mixer in our photo gallery! Thank you to everyone who came out to support Franco's and the tennis staff. Way to go everyone!
WOMEN'S MINI WIMBLEDON
June 2009, was awesome! Therina did a fantastic job of making it memorable for eveyone. From the moment you checked in and got your personalized goody-bag with your "new Pro name", players enjoyed traditional tea and scones before play began. Once play started it was on and off the courts for round after round of doubles. The pressure of competition was eased by the amazing Pimm's Cup provided for all by the expert skills of Andy Hoffman, one of Great Britain's greatest exports. Lunch was prepared courtesy of Franco's Grille, Chef Kip Cullen. A Wimbledon menu was capped off by traditional Strawberries and Cream and Mimosa's. The couple of rounds finished up after lunch with Lisa Finley and Michelle Vitellaro winning the A-division and Jeanne Martin and Martha Joslin winning the B-division. Thank you ladies for coming out and spending Sunday with us at Franco's!
TENNIS CRAWFISH MIXER, MAY 2009
Our very first event is "in the books". What a great time we had, awesome food, amazing prizes, and some pretty good tennis too! Thirty six members came out to meet, eat and compete! When the dust settled and the tennis was finished we declared the winners, gave out prizes and ate some serious crawfish!
Our ladies champion was Julie LeMaire. The Silver medal went to Jan Knight and the Bronze went to Stephanie Pastor. For the men, Tony Pastor took home the Gold. Wayne Morris got the Silver and "Invincible" Vince Alvero got the Bronze. Special prizes for outstanding or unusual accomplishments went to Carlos Ditcharo, free Wild Man's Workout, Tommy Eiermann won a 1/2 hour lesson from Ray and Chris Ditcharo received a free Cardio Tennis Pass. Special thanks to the O Spa here at Franco's for providing the 1st place prizes for both the men and ladies.
