Dear Fins Parents and Swimmers,

I am very excited to be apart of the Franco Fins. I bring to the program not only 24 years as instructor and coach and nineteen years as a competitive swimmer, but the unique specialty of coaching swimmers from their developmental years to their college years and beyond. My success in sustaining their interest and their enthusiasm is attributable to my teaching and coaching philosophy: swimmers that love what they do, believe in themselves, and feel confident in their skills will be successful.

My primary focus in taking the Fins to the next level is to create an environment that offers support, program structure, and encouragement allowing each athlete the opportunity to attain his or her maximum potential in competitive swimming. These are the nine principals I will incorporate for our success.

  1. To make swimming an enjoyable sport, in an effort to keep athletes involved from their developmental years, through college and beyond.
  2. To give each swimmer the physical background and stroke technique necessary to succeed.
  3. To strengthen individual character and prepare athletes for life's challenges through competition and team commitment.
  4. To create an atmosphere for parents and athletes of team spirit and unity.
  5. To contribute to the development of a positive attitude in and out of the pool.
  6. To work harder than the opposition in the pursuit of excellence.
  7. To attain our maximum potential in competitive swimming.
  8. To teach swimmers the importance of - and the benefits to be gained from - hard work and dedication.
  9. To see that the sport of swimming is kept in perspective and that it remain fun.

So we can meet these goals together, I will be committed to the team as well as to each and every member. The coaches will meet regularly to discuss the individual swimmers and the team as a whole. I will always have an open door policy, so that, any of your questions and concerns can always be addressed. Please do not hesitate to call or stop by the office.

The team will be successful if both parents and swimmers feel a part of it. It is my goal that every swimmer and their parents feel apart of the Fins.

I look forward to getting to know you,

Coach Robby

Objectives/Career Goals

I am a graduate of Jesuit High School in New Orleans, Louisiana. I am also a graduate of Tulane University, with a major in exercise science and social sciences. My concentration included advanced exercise physiology and I have also participated and taught in a cadaver lab for three semesters in human anatomy and physiology. My goal is to provide professional services in the implementation of my workout to your respective athletes/people to the best of my ability.
I have worked with a wide range of athletes from four year olds to professional athletes (baseball, football, basketball, soccer, softball, golf, volleyball, tennis, equestrian, swimming, and dancers).I graduated from Jesuit High School in 1999 and Tulane University in August of 2004. While at Jesuit, I played football and baseball and was captain of both teams my senior year. At Tulane, I was on a full football scholarship where I played for three years and was also a captain. I was awarded the male athlete of the year award my senior year. While at Tulane I had the pleasure of working with strength coaches: Curtis Tsuruda, Gavin Osaki, and Mike Ioscia. Before attending Tulane I attended Kansas State University for two years on a full football scholarship, where I worked with National Strength Coach of the Year, Rod Cole, and his top assistants, Mark Oberkrom and Scott Gadeken. My last two years of high school I was able to train with Tom Shaw, who is one of the top speed coaches in the nation (New England Patriots). In the fall of 2004 I worked with Southeastern Louisiana University's Baseball team as an assistant strength coach, implementing the speed and strength workout as well as doing yoga with them for thirty minutes after every weightlifting session three times per week. The implementation of yoga into their regimen has helped them tremendously from a functional standpoint, correcting their imbalances and allowing for a new core strength. Also, in the fall of '04, I started speed, agility and conditioning groups at Kehoe-France and Lake Castle Grammar Schools, working with 4 year olds to seventh graders. In March of 2005, I was named Manager, Athletic Director, and Head Speed, Strength, Core, and Functional Training Specialist at Franco's Athletic Club in Mandeville, Louisiana. In summer '05 I worked with Jesuit High School's Football Team in New Orleans, LA. Currently, I am working with Jesuit's Baseball team, Mandeville High School's football team, Mandeville Soccer Club's Premier, Select teams and athletes, and all of the athletes in the Sports Performance Academy. I also work with Christ Episcopal School's entire eigth grade class once per week for their Physical Education Period. I have worked with kids coaching speed and strength groups, as well as implementing yoga and functional training to our program and our athletes, high school, college, and pro. I have had the pleasure and opportunity of working with state semi-finalist Fountainbleau's football team in the summer of 2004, as well as St. Paul's entire football team and a handful of players from Ponchatoula. I have also worked with major and minor league players: Jack Cressend (middle reliever, Cleveland Indians), Mike Fontenot (AAA Orioles), Andy Cannizaro (AA Yankees), Nick Tisone (A Braves), and Randy Roth. I also have the pleasure of working with about 20-30 NFL combine athletes from Priority and Fusion Sports Agencies (one went in the 1st round, 28th overall pick in 2004). I am currently training Alfred Fincher, middle linebacker for the New Orleans Saints and the Franco's FINS swim team. I also train Ryan Adams, who recently was drafted 58th overall pick to the Baltimore Orioles in the 2006 Major League Baseball Draft.

I have also offered all of my athletes to seek my advice in nutritional consulting and supplementation and recovery and regeneration techniques. I believe that I can be of help in taking the organization further, by doing anything asked of me, assisting in any way that I can to make your athletes and people better on the field and off. The education and experience that I will bring to the organization will assist in the implementation of my workouts to the best of my ability.

I am also a personal trainer to adults and kids at Franco's and Gilboy's and I am also currently teaching Yoga/Pilates at Northshore Academy of Dance. I was also on the February 2005 cover of Louisiana's Health and Fitness Magazine and the front page of the sports section in The St. Tammany News in July 2006. In September 2006, I was featured in The Times Picayune Living Section, with Shea Garrison. Here I helped to write, edit and coordinate a performance-based workout to benefit anyone and everyone from kids to adults. Also, I am currently training Covington High School's entire baseball program.
